1st Popsicle

So you may not think that having your first Popsicle would be worthy of being on a blog, but Evan eating his first Popsicle at dinner tonight was priceless. His face was hilarious and he loved it. He would only lick it and therefore ate very little of it, but it was so funny! I love this boy!!

Potty Training Update

Well, after our perfect day with no accidents, the next two days were filled with multiple accidents. Then I went back to work and we decided that it just wasn't time to continue with the training. Ultimately, he just isn't ready. And I've comes to terms with the fact that he just might still be in diapers when the next baby comes along. We'll just wait for him to be ready!

Potty Training Day 4

Today was a weird day. Starting with last night, Evan wouldn't go to bed until 10:30! 3 hours past bedtime! He was wired and must have know it was New Year's! And he's learned a trick that if he says, "poo-poo" mommy and daddy come and get him out of bed! Boy, he's already using that one! So we went to bed late and then he woke up around 5:30am (way too early). I stayed up with him while Ken went back to sleep (I knew I wouldn't be able to sleep anymore). So the really good news is that his underwear was DRY in the morning! Yeah! However, the late night, early morning, and pregnancy tiredness are not a good combination. I was quite the tired, emotional mother today. Since it was day 4 we let off of potty training a little too much in the morning. He had quite a few accidents which was really frustrating. Then Ken and I calmed down, reread parts of the book that we're following and started the day again. Everything went better from there. We encouraged him to keep his underwear dry and had him check it about every 10 minutes. He only had one accident after that and that was while eating dinner where a little pee came out, but he finished on the potty. So, after 4 days, he's really learned how to hold his bladder, but he still hasn't learned how to tell us when he needs to go. Either that or he just chooses not to because he doesn't want to stop whatever he's doing. I lean more towards the second reason. But the night ended on a positive note. He was playing with us. He stopped and said something about needing to go potty and Ken took him where he completed his business. We pray that he got enough out to make it through the night dry. And we pray that he stays asleep...or learns to cry in bed because we aren't going to keep taking him out of bed tonight. We have a birthday to celebrate tomorrow! And we also pray that he keeps his underwear dry during the party tomorrow!!!

Potty Training Day 3

Today ends day 3 of the 3-day potty training. I guess we'll know tomorrow how much of it will stick with him when we aren't with him every second of the day. Although we're still treating tomorrow as a similar day to make sure that he makes this new potty thing a habit. When Evan woke up this morning his bed was soaked again. We definitely don't have the nighttime thing down. Then we placed him on the potty with a slight fight from Evan (we've realized that he does better on the potty if he has something in his hand). He went on the potty and then throughout the morning he still had some accidents and we weren't sure how well this 3 day thing was going to work with him. But later in the day he told me when he needed to pee a few times and we even did our poo-poo in the potty. I think he may have the poo-poo thing down. He took a nap for over 3 hours (so this training is exhausting him as well as us) and woke up dry. I coerced him to the potty where he relieved himself. Then dad encouraged him to go potty before dinner and again relieved himself. Before his bath he went on the potty again. So he knows to go on the potty and is really good at holding in his pee for hours now. What we aren't sure of is how well he's able to tell us when he needs to go potty. I think tomorrow will tell us more about that. But he's done a great job and I think it will stick with him (at least we hope)!

Potty Training Day 2 Continued

Okay, just after I wrote the last post I heard a noise in Evan's room. Since we told him to call for us if he needs to use the potty, I barged on in. He was really just tossing around, but already his bed was wet (not even 30 minutes into his sleep)...note to self...make sure Evan empties his bladder before bed (he never went on the potty, but we were trying not to force him - I think we needed to wait longer). We put him on the potty while I changed his sheets. He never went on the potty, but his bed was quite wet so hopefully his bladder is now empty. I guess we'll know for sure in a few hours.

Potty Training Day 2

Well, day 2 is now behind us. There was much improvement from day 1 and yet still much improvement will be needed tomorrow. I think we went through about 10 pairs of underwear all day and yesterday we went through about 10 pairs in the first 2 hours!! Evan woke up an hour early and was soaked...nighttime will be the biggest challenge. Then for the next hour or two I was up with him while Ken went back to bed and Evan fought me every time I tried to put him on the potty. I thought our potty training was over. But then I left the house and when I came back Evan had done much better and had gone potty a few times. Then with me he let me know that he needed to go poo-poo and so we made it in time to the potty for quite a lot of pee and poop. That was our most impressive trip of the day. After his nap (which he was dry for) he never really told us that he had to pee in time. We had more accidents later in the day than we had in the morning. Looking back though, most of the day was spent in one or two pairs of underwear that stayed dry for a long time. I think progress has been made. I'm not sure if we're going to be fully trained in 3 days like some kids are, but I can't see us turning back to diapers now. We'll see how tomorrow goes.
